A raster graphic, like a .jpg, .gif or .png, are made up of lots of tiny pixels of various colours visible when zooming in. Used in photography and digital applications, raster images are usually avoided when it comes to logos and icons. 

A vector graphic is made up of paths and curves, produced through software like Adobe Illustrator. The benefits of vectors is that they can be scaled infinitely and still remain clear and smooth, and are the go-to format for things like logos.

In a nutshell, RGB is better for digital whereas CMYK is better for print. RGB stands for red, green and blue (the primary colours of light) that are used in digital monitors to display colour. CMYK stands for cyan, magenta, yellow and black (the primary colours of pigment) and are used for ‘full’ or ‘four-colour’ printing. The combination of RGB creates white, whereas the combination of CMYK creates black, therefore produces different ranges of colour. Knowing which mode to use and how to convert from one to the other is highly important in design.
